1620s

Some burial practices reported are as follows:  the body is placed in the grave in a sitting position on the heels,  with objects placed around the body, wooden planks surround the grave to keep dirt out, a wooden fence or small palisade covered with mats are placed over the grave making a small dwelling. Hair of the relatives is cut and faces painted black.  The name of the deceased is not mentioned again.1
