Introduction

The Garvies Point Site featured a once exposed archaic shell midden found on an eroding bluff. During 20th century excavations, among the objects found in the shell deposit were a semi-lunar knife or ulu of ground blue slate, a large slate projectile point, a broken chisel, and a bannerstone or atlatl weight, each from the archaic period. The site appeared to be pre-pottery characteristic of the archaic period.
