Mocomanto, Shinnecock Sachem

Mocomanto was a mid-seventeenth-century Shinnecock leader named among the Native signers of the December 13, 1640 Southampton deed. Mocomanto belongs in public Southampton history because English settlement narratives often obscure the Shinnecock leaders whose land, diplomacy, and signatures made those colonial records possible.
