Opening from On This Site - Native Long Island

David Fowler (Montaukett)

David Fowler (1735–1807) was a Montaukett teacher, traveler, community organizer, and political leader whose work connected Montauk to the Native-led Brothertown movement. David Fowler’s life shows Montaukett history extending far beyond one place. His teaching, long-distance service, family responsibilities, and Brothertown leadership reveal Native people using education, kinship, movement, and government to sustain community under colonial land pressure.
