Opening from On This Site - Native Long Island
Duck (nanásecus)
Black ducks connect Long Island marshes with Shinnecock waterfowl knowledge and the art of decoy carving. Wetlands sustain birds and the cultural knowledge connected with them. Shinnecock decoy carving shows how close observation can become art, livelihood, and a legacy whose makers deserve recognition.
