Opening from On This Site - Native Long Island
Three Village Historical Society and Museum
A public museum and archive in East Setauket preserving local history, including Setalcott oral histories and community records. Listening to local people changes how a place is understood. This museum offers a way to encounter Setalcott community memory alongside the colonial records that often dominate accounts of the North Shore. The museum preserves recorded Setalcott elder interviews, photographs, and documents. These materials connect family memory with the wider history of Setauket. 1 Community authority in public history Its October 2025 statement, written with the Setalcott Nation, commits to shared stewardship and Setalcott authority over interpretation and conservation of Native materials. It remembers former trustee Chief Theodore “Blue Medicine” Green and his work to make Black and Indigenous histories more visible. 1
