Swego is a Huntington locality recorded in a 1771 town order. A Town of Huntington historical marker identifies the name with this Centerport area on Fort Salonga Road. The surviving town marker turns Swego from a broad Huntington reference into a mappable Centerport locality. The listing also shows how a location can be secure even when competing historical interpretations of a name remain unsettled. The 1771 record refers to Jonah Wood's house at Swego during a smallpox-related order. A historical marker erected by the Town of Huntington Historian's Office in 1986 supplies a surviving modern location for the locality. The marker stands on Fort Salonga Road west of Stony Hollow Road in Centerport.
