Sungic (Shelter Island)

Sungic is a point of land and creek on the east side of Shelter Island, facing Gardiners Bay. The name was preserved on local maps and in local usage rather than in early deeds. It is connected with the rocky shoreline and a nearby Rocky Point. Sungic is interpreted as a stony place, compared with related words for stone and with the Sunwicks entry.
