Messemennuck (Peconic Bay)

Messemennuck is a Peconic Bay and river-boundary placename associated with alewife fishing and the western bounds of Shinnecock territory. As a traditional western boundary for the Shinnecock Nation, Messemennuck was defined by its rich ecological resources, providing both cat-tail reeds for wigwam roofs and abundant Alewife fish.
