A fall 2026 Freeport exhibition by Shinnecock artist Jeremy Dennis, pairing On This Site landscapes with the Shinnecock Portrait Project. Living Conduit - Indigenous History and Present Day is a dual-project exhibition by Shinnecock artist Jeremy Dennis, hosted at the South Ocean Gallery in Freeport. Drawing on Dennis' On This Site project, the exhibit looks to the landscapes of Freeport and the Merrick/Meroke ancestral homeland to reveal layers of historical erasure, including the carting away of wampum shell heaps and the absence of the monument once marking the Merokee village site. The exhibition is anchored by the Shinnecock Portrait Project, pairing landscapes that chronicle loss with portraits and interviews that assert continuity, survivance, and the living presence of Long Island Indigenous communities.
